<image:caption>Discovered in the mid 1880’s and shutdown in the early 1930’s, during this time the quarry was fabricating some of the most beautiful, dense stone in the World. Shipped from coast to coast, adorning the New York Stock Exchange, Steps of the White House, Capital Buildings, Libraries, Banks, Grand Hotels and other public and commercial locations nationwide. Reopened in the late 2010’s with modern mining techniques and traditional craftsmanship once again making this gorgeous stone available nationwide.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Science</image:title>
<image:caption>Southwest Missouri has a stratigraphic history that embellishes the weathered faces of its limestone bluffs. The Ozark Plateau was once the bed of an ancient shallow inland sea. For nearly 35 million years precipitates of calcium carbonate and the ancient remains of aquatic plants and marine organisms were established layer upon layer. The dense deposits were compressed into ledges of solid limestone. The ancient sea emptied, the Earth rose, and this geologic force, lifted, folded and eventually exposed these rocks layers. From a natural stone point of view that equates to an extremely durable, sustainable, low-maintenance product. From a designer’s point of view, the fossils, colors and geological patterns are unmatched.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The History</image:title>
<image:caption>Blasting for the Missouri, Kansas City (KC), Clinton, Springfield railroad uncovered a major limestone deposit. C.R. Hunt KC operated the quarry as the Phenix Stone and Lime Company; however, in 1905 a marble finisher in Milwaukee by the name of W.J.Grant had a piece of the Phenix stone in his shop. Grant recognizing that the stone was very high grade and took a polish, he made his way to KC and purchased an interest in Hunt’s business.</image:caption>
